About 69% of Armenia's total land resources are of agricultural importance. Traditionally, well-grown crops here are grapes, apricots, peaches, apples, pears, tomatoes, and cucumbers. In 2011-2017, the total area of greenhouses operating in Armenia increased from about 30 ha to 900 ha. Most of the greenhouses are located in the Kotayk, Armavir, and Ararat regions. The main export market is Russia. Armenia has all the necessary conditions for the development and expansion of greenhouse farms. 1. Favorable geographical and climatic conditions. - More than 320 sunny days per year, - mild winters, - affordable irrigation systems. 2. Favorable tax system for agricultural production. The Armenian government has chosen agriculture as one of the strategic long-term directions of the country's development (2014-2025). As a result, a favorable tax system has been adopted for agricultural production, including exemption from profit tax. 3. Broad and promising export markets, including the EAEU member states, Georgia, the USA, the UAE, etc.
High-tech greenhouse farms Agricultural production in high-tech industrial greenhouses is considered one of the most profitable and promising sectors of agriculture. Such greenhouses make it possible to organize agricultural production throughout the year.
Of the 900 hectares of greenhouses operating in Armenia, more than 100 hectares are large greenhouses with modern technologies. The latter are mainly located in the Kotayk, Armavir, and Ararat regions. Such greenhouses are mainly engaged in the cultivation of tomatoes, cucumbers, and flowers, the bulk of whose sales are provided by export markets.
